Where the Land and Sea Intertwine:
Connecting the Coastal Ecosystems of Belize

EFT May 2003

On May 13 and 15, 2003, students and teachers across the United States tuned in for two Electronic Field Trips live from Belize in Central America.

May 13: Mangrove Forests

On May 13, the focus was on mangrove forests. Students explored the ecology, adaptations, and diversity of mangrove ecosystems and learned about research by SERC scientist Ilka Feller.

May 15: Sea Turtles

Then, on May 15, students continued their exploration of Belize's coastal ecosystems with a second Electronic Field Trip, this time investigating sea turtles.

For more information about the content of the programs, download the Where the Land an Sea Intertwine EFT flyer (pdf).

Worldwide Audience

The EFTs from Belize were available on many local PBS stations and through the Apple Learning Interchange: Where the Land and Sea Intertwine. Both parts of the program, Mangrove Forests and Sea Turtles, reached about 15 million students in North and Central America. The Belize International Film Festival also presented both programs during the seven-day event in March 2004.
