With Marsh Explorations students go on a two-mile hike through forest and marsh at SERC. Several topics are discussed such as nutrient pollution, field research, watershed topography, and marsh ages.
>Weather testing and a discussion about wetland water cycles and groundwater processes >Nutrient testing and a discussion about the nitrogen and phosphorous cycles >Wetland soils, soil horizons, and soil profiles >Dichotomous key identification of hydrophytes >Adaptations of marsh plants and animals
To schedule a field trip, contact Jane Holly at SERC's Education Department for available dates or use our "Field Trip Registration Request" form. After we receive the form, education staff will contact you to discuss dates and confirm your field trip.
You will need about 2-3 hours to complete Marsh Explorations.
Wetland Ecology field trips in 2012 are $12 per student. Please pay when you arrive. The Teachers' Corner has information on available grants that might help cover part of your field trip expenses.
