Activity: Purple Thurple
Adapted from Manure, Meadow, and Milkshakes, by Eric Jorgensen, Trout Black, and Mary Hallesy
OBJECTIVE: To help students become better observers
SKILLS: Classifying, imaging
SUBJECTS: Language arts, science
TIME: Just a few minutes-done as you walk the trail, anytime, anywhere
DIRECTIONS:
Forget giving a name to a plant or animal every time a student asks. Instead, ask the student to tell you 3-4 things about that plant or animal. For example, the plant may be thorny, sticky, smelly, and purplish green. Then have the student or whole class give the plant a name based on those descriptive words.
