Step 5: Report Writing
Now that you've analyzed the data and know what it means, you are ready to answer your research question.
Was your hypothesis correct or not? Why or why not? What do your findings mean? How could you have improved your project? What are your recommendations for future research? These are the things other scientists and students are interested in, and we ask that you write these down in a report for STAR.
Typically, your report will follow the following outline:
- Title
- Abstract
- Introduction (where you introduce the research questions or hypotheses)
- Methods for data collection and analysis
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusions
- Recommendations for further research
Your report can be around five pages with appendixes.
When you submit your report to SERC, we will publish it on this website.
What's next?
Your report is done and you are nearly there. One final step to complete your research project: Step 6: Publishing and Presenting your work.
