SERC offers professional development opportunities to help educators incorporate the latest information related to SERC research into their curriculum. Contact us for more information about the options described below.
Teacher Development Workshops
SERC presents a Teacher Development Workshop for K-12 teachers. Gain an in-depth knowledge of SERC research and of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem and its connection to the Bay's watershed through activities led by SERC education and research staff. Workshops can also address developing and implementing meaningful outdoor experiences related to the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed. Workshops are held at the Reed Education Center. Develop your skills as a SERC volunteer
SERC encourages teachers to consider working as a volunteer in one of the research labs or education department. Several days of exciting, outdoor field sampling and contact with our researchers will help you stay on top of the latest developments in ecology and environmental science. Please contact Mark Haddon (443-482-2218) or visit our volunteer pages for more information.
In-service Workshops
Interested in learning more about SERC research and our education programs? SERC works with school systems in the DC-metropolitan area to develop in-service workshops for teachers. Popular with science coordinators, an "in-service workshop" at SERC focuses on research programs and recent findings of SERC scientists and the programs we offer for students and teachers. For more information, contact Education Director Mark Haddon.
