Live Bait Transfer

Live aquatic organisms are imported into the US from a variety of foreign countries for use as bait by the sport-fishing public.  These and other imported organisms, as well as other associated epibionts (i.e., hitch-hikers) unintentionally carried with them, may pose a significant threat to fish and wildlife resources in the United States.  This project investigates and measures the nature and magnitude of the imported live bait trade and tests imported live bait for potential pathogenic "hitch-hikers" that may pose a threat to native fish and wildlife resources.
