Atheya species

Similar to some Chaetoceros species; it is not primarily planktonic being frequently found attached to sand grains. It is distinguished from Chaetoceros by the structure of the valve and the valve outrows or horns. See Tomas in Taxonomic References. Sample collected near the Ross Sea, December 2004.
