Pyrocystis fusiformis syn Pyrocystis fusiformis v. biconica (Kofoid)

First described in 1885 by Murray. It is a large vegetative cell with spores that resemble gymnodinoid species. Length up to 600µm. Interoceanic warm water species; Straits of Florida, Gulf Stream to north coast of Brazil.
