Diameter of cell 40-186 microns. The characteristic occluded processes are not visible in the photos. Both samples are fixed in acid Lugols which can cause deterioration or detachment of processes on the cell walls. Predominant centric diatom in waters around Carrie Bow Cay. This species is considered invasive and is widely distributed. It was first described in the Northwest Pacific in 1886. Go to this link for more views.
