Pleurosigma elongatum syn. Pleurosigma formosum (?)

A marine and brackish water species found especially near shore where the cells can attach themselves to many types of substrates. Can be found in plankton tows when the cells have been dislodged and are carried by current or wave action. Average length is 190µ. If cell can be cleaned the oblique and transverse striae are visible.
