Trichodesmium spp.

A colonial marine Cyanobacteria, Trichodesmium can be seen with the naked eye. It is found most frequently in tropical and sub-tropical waters, and is extremely important in nitrogen fixation in the open ocean. One species has been reported to have a neurotoxin, which kills fish and causes respiratory problems in humans. This sample came from the Burmanallha area.
