Condylostoma tardum

Condylostoma are one of the larger ciliates found in micro-zooplankton and is an important grazer. These examples have been feeding heavily on a Gymnodinium/Gyrodinium dinoflagellate species. They are found during late spring and early summer in the Rhode River.

The photograph on left was taken by Dr. John Dolan from Station Zoologique, Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France, while doing research at here at SERC.
