Dactyliosolen fragilissima syn Rhizosolenia fragillissima
Cells are cylindrical and can be found in long chains as well as solitary. They average 12-20µ long and 42-67µ long. The one above is ready to reproduce as you can see the smaller cell on the top. This sample was collected from the South River near Annapolis, Maryland. It was collected in a sample by Taki Nakamura. He is participating in SERC's STAR (Student Training in Aquatic Research) program. He is a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School, Fairfax, VA.
