Melosira moniliformis

Size 31um wide, 17um long, total volume12831.05. Frequently found in coastal plankton. (See Tomas Taxonomic References .) Collected in August through October from stations 1A and 2A in the Rhode River. Also collected from plankton tow in the Patuxent River. This sample came from a tidal creek in Northern Anne Arundel County, MD.
Eurasian Watermilfoil was growing in the creek and the fronds were covered in sediment and Melosira. The sample contains three varieties of Melosira; M. moniliformis, M. nummuloides, and M. varians. Typically Melosira
is a chain-forming benthic species that can be found in plankton if the bottom sediment has been disturbed.
