
Hymenomonas carterae syn. Syracosphaera carterae, Cricosphaera carterae, Syracosphaera brandti
This is a moderately sized cell approximately 12-17µ in diameter. The remarkable characteristic are the small scales that cover the cell wall. The rough exterior is all that can be seen in the photo above. This species appears and disappears from the Rhode River from year-to-year, tending to appear more in wet years.
