Volvox aureus

Colonies of this species contain anywhere from 500 to 50,000 cells. The photo on the right shows daughter cells within the parent colony. A Volvox colony can be sexual or asexual with complex reproductive capabilities. See Wehr and Sheath in Taxonomic References.
