CISNet Datasets
The following downloadable data files are compressed comma-delimited text files. A
decompression software program is required to access the zip data files. Brief
summaries as to the content of the data files are provided below. For more detail,
see the metadata files. They consist of file names, time period covered, descriptions
of variables, frequency of recordings, condition of data, and GPS coordinates and water
depth of sampling stations.
Ac-9 Continuous Monitoring
The WETLabs Spectral AC-9 meter was programmed to collect hourly attenuation and absorption
coefficients at wavelengths 412, 440, 488, 510, 532, 555, 650, 676, and 715 nm. The data
file contains these eighteen light measurements along with the year, month, day, Julian day,
and hour. Samples were collected at a single site (4B, Sta = 3.8) on the Rhode River
(see map below). The variable Sta identifies the distance (km) of the field stations along
the Rhode River from the mouth.
Spectral Diffuse Attenuation Coefficients
The Satlantic OCI 200 irradiance sensors were used to collect upwelling and downwelling
spectral irradiance profiles on a weekly basis at three to five field stations
(see map below) along the Rhode River. The data file consists of year, month, day, Sta,
profnum, Kd PAR, and Kd values at wavelengths 325, 340, 380, 412, 443, 490, 510, 532, 555,
620, 665, 683, and 705 nm. The variable Sta identifies the distance (km) of the field
stations along the Rhode River from the mouth. The variable profnum in the data file
identifies the sample order of the profiles taken on the same day.
Water Quality
Integrated water samples were collected at three to five field stations
(see map below) along the Rhode River, coinciding with
weekly Satlantic profiles . Laboratory analyses on these
water samples were made to determine concentrations of suspended particulate matter,
colored dissolved organic matter, and phytoplankton chlorophyll. Light measurements were
made on whole and filtered (Poretics, 0.22 micron) samples using a WETlabs AC-9 meter and
a Carey spectrophotometer.
The data file WaterQuality.zip consists of year, month, day, profnum, Sta, total and fixed
suspended solids (mgL-1), and chlorophyll a (µgL-1). The variable Sta identifies the
distance (km) of the field stations along the Rhode River with respect to the mouth.
The variable profnum in the data file identifies the sample order of the profiles taken on
the same day.
The data file AC9Total&FF440 consists of year, month, day, profnum, Sta, and attenuation
and absorption coefficients at wavelengths 412, 440, 488, 510, 532, 555, 650, 676, and
715 nm . The data file also includes absorption coefficient at 440 nm by colored
dissolved organic matter after filtration.
Salinity Monitors
Four salinity monitors were deployed at various positions along the Rhode River
(see map below) to collect data hourly. The downloadable data files consists of year,
month, day, Julian day, hour, temperature (°C), conductivity (μScm-1), and
salinity (ppt). The variable Sta identifies the distance (km) of the field stations along
the Rhode River from the mouth.
