NON-NATIVE SPECIES IN OUR MIDST: A CURSE OR A BLESSING?
Evening Lecture
Location: Schmidt Conference Center
Start: 7:00PM
End: 8:00PM
Speaker: Susan Cook-Patton
Affiliation: SERC
Often we, as gardeners, are told to plant native species because they are better for the environment than non-native species. We are also told that it is better to have a diversity of different plants across the landscape. The conundrum is that diversity is increasing in many areas because non-native species are becoming more and more integrated into our marshes, fields and forests. Should we appreciate non-natives because they increase diversity? Or should we try to get rid of them because they aren't native? Light refreshments will begin at 6:30, and the lecture will start at 7.
