| abstract | Volume, source, temperature, salinity, and oxygen concentration of ballast water arriving to Port Valdez, Alaska on commercial oil tankers. Data collected by boarding of vessels by SERC staff. The data come from vessels arriving from the western U.S. (i.e., California, Oregon, and Washington) as well as overseas (primarily Asia). Presently the database includes approximately 130 vessels. This is an on-going project, and a major focus is on measuring ballast management practices, especially ballast water exchange, among vessels as a method to reduce the rate of invasions. |
